Insert Operator

Posted 2016-08-12 Charleston Newspapers is accepting applications for part-time ad Inserters for Mailroom Department.

Charleston Newspapers oversees advertising, printing, circulation and business functions of the Charleston Gazette-Mail. Charleston Newspapers also produces specialty publications, online interactive content, and contracts printing with other local businesses.

Successful applicants will be assigned to either day shift or night shift as needed at time of hire. Some schedule adjustments may be made on weekends and other times based on production needs. Must be able to work late nights, early mornings, and weekends.

The successful candidates will be responsible for performing quality work in all areas of the department. Must assemble and route various types of printed material into the newspaper by performing various duties as may be needed on an assembly line. This includes feeding, stacking, moving, etc. pre-printed inserts as they are coming off the press. Job duties will require regular lifting of various printed materials, occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs., and continuous reaching for printed materials during production runs. All job duties require standing. Must have basic math skills in order to count zones. Assembly line experience not required, training provided.

Qualified candidates must be at least 18 years old, and have an excellent attendance record, clean criminal background, be able to read, and write.

Relief Manager

Posted 2016-09-22 Charleston Newspapers has an immediate opening for a Circulation Relief Manager.

Charleston Newspapers oversees advertising, printing, circulation and business functions of the Charleston Gazette-Mail. Charleston Newspapers also produces specialty publications, online interactive content, and contracts printing with other local businesses.

Relief Managers are responsible for home delivery of the Charleston Gazette, The Charleston Daily Mail, Saturday Gazette Mail, and the Sunday Gazette-Mail within assigned districts.

Duties include helping District Managers deliver newspaper routes. Good communication skills are required, as are a strong customer service ethic, clean driving record and a positive attitude.

Charleston Newspapers offers a 401k savings plan to part time employees. Weekend and nights are mandatory. About 35 hours a week, and a company car is provided during work hours. There’s opportunity for OVERTIME and career advancement. Must be able to pass a drug test.

Obituary Clerk

Posted 2016-09-20 Obituary Clerk- Charleston Newspapers is seeking a full-time Obituary Clerk. In this role, you will be the primary contact for obituary advertising. Responsibilities include working with all legal and obituary advertisers, which includes handling phone calls, emails and walk-ins. Must be able to prepare price quotes for these advertisers using our AdBooker software, as well as collect payments, and make any suggestions to improve their ads. Will also handle any administrative tasks as needed. Qualified applicants must have a GED or High School diploma, though some College/College Degree is preferred. Two plus years in a customer service or account service role preferred. Applicants who are methodical, organized, detailed and accurate under pressure, highly organized and meet deadlines consistently, and are able to quickly spot and correct typographical errors will succeed in this position. This position does require working weekend and evening hours.
