MAILROOM INSERTER

Posted 2014-09-17 Charleston Newspapers seeks part-time and seasonal Inserters for Mailroom Department. The successful candidates will be responsible for performing quality work in all areas of the Department. Must assemble and route various types of printed material into the newspaper by performing various duties as may be needed on an assembly line. This includes feeding, stacking, moving, etc. pre-printed inserts as they are coming off the press. Must be able to work late nights, early mornings, and weekends. Job duties will require regular lifting of various printed materials, occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs., and continuous reaching for printed materials during production runs. All job duties require standing. Must have basic math skills in order to count zones. Assembly line experience not required, training provided.

Qualified candidates must be at least 18 years old, and have an excellent attendance record, clean criminal background, be able to read, and write.

DRIVER

Posted 2014-06-23 Come join an experienced team of drivers at Charleston Newspapers.

Drivers are trained to perform a number of jobs, ranging from delivering newspaper bundles along a specific route for carriers to pick up, to servicing our vending machines and newsstand accounts. Our vehicles range from small pickups to extended vans to large trucks, and drivers are trained on each vehicle. This position is primarily night shift with varying work times.

Drivers must be able to repeatedly lift bundles weighing up to thirty pounds, and be able to enter and exit a vehicle many times each shift, walk and carry bundles, and access places which may not meet ADA requirements.

Hours average 30 to 40 a week. Prior driving experience of large vehicles required. You must have a good driving record and be able to pass a drug screening.

MAILROOM MANAGER

Posted 2014-08-29 MAILROOM MANAGER - Charleston Newspapers seeks full-time Mailroom Manager in Charleston, WV.

Duties will include, but are not limited to: Supervision, recruiting, hiring and training of mailroom inserters; Planning work schedules and assign duties to maintain adequate staff for effective performance of activities and response to fluctuating workloads; Ensuring efficient distribution of the newspaper advertisements and any related publications, inserts or special sections; Prepare and maintain work records and reports of information such as advertising calendar, employee time and wages, daily receipts, or inspection results; Inform designated employees or departments of items loaded or problems encountered.

Must have a high school diploma and a minimum of three to five years of supervisor experience, preferably in a production environment. Knowledge of safe working procedures and the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers is necessary. Knowledge of newspaper machinery and/or circulation is a plus. The ideal candidate will possess the following traits: personal-motivation; attention to detail and accuracy; effective supervision skills; ability to meet deadlines and to prioritize. ADVERTISING DIRECTOR

Posted 2014-09-16 Charleston Newspapers is seeking a strategic and tactically driven Advertising Director to lead a high-performing, diverse account sales team, dedicated to providing comprehensive media solutions to businesses in retail, automotive, real estate, recruitment, and other advertising categories critical to the newspapers success. The Advertising Director will direct activity to meet and exceed revenue goals and objectives and budget advertising revenue goals. This position reports to the President/ General Manager of Charleston Newspapers.

Responsibilities:
• Provide overall leadership and guidance for the sales effort including day-to-day management of their assigned accounts.
• Responsible for the implementation of sales strategies and department procedures.
• Prepare and manage revenue and expense budgets to achieve targets.
• Improve quality and reduce defects with a plan of continuous quality improvement.
• Responsible for the ongoing improvement of products, services, ad content and layout.
• Establish promotional and sales efforts for growing advertising revenues and increasing market share.
• Identify regional competitive threats and create promotional packages to overcome competition.
• Develop and maintain effective client relationships with advertisers.
• Provide coaching and feedback for managers and sales staff to support talent development and ensure they meet sales goals, control expenses and achieve departmental budget.
• Participate in sales calls with sales managers or sales staff with high level accounts to ensure contract agreements are maximized and meet the business needs of advertisers.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, or equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA or related Master’s achievement is preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of outside sales experience required including prior management experience in newspaper and/or media advertising sales.
• Exceptional coaching skills.
• Expert knowledge of all facets of print and digital sales and marketing.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and ability to promote and sell concepts to team and customers.
• Experience negotiating market and product advertising contracts is a plus.
• Excellent leadership skills and experience managing sales staff to achieve revenue goals and high performance.
• Adept at creating new revenue opportunities from synergies between interactive sales and print.
• Excellent organizational skills and analytical skills, including proficient PC skills in Microsoft Office.
