Insert Operator

Charleston Newspapers oversees advertising, printing, circulation and business functions of the Charleston Gazette-Mail. Charleston Newspapers also produces specialty publications, online interactive content, and contracts printing with other local businesses.

Successful applicants will be assigned to either day shift or night shift as needed at time of hire. Some schedule adjustments may be made on weekends and other times based on production needs. Must be able to work late nights, early mornings, and weekends.

The successful candidates will be responsible for performing quality work in all areas of the department. Must assemble and route various types of printed material into the newspaper by performing various duties as may be needed on an assembly line. This includes feeding, stacking, moving, etc. pre-printed inserts as they are coming off the press. Job duties will require regular lifting of various printed materials, occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs., and continuous reaching for printed materials during production runs. All job duties require standing. Must have basic math skills in order to count zones. Assembly line experience not required, training provided.

Qualified candidates must be at least 18 years old, and have an excellent attendance record, clean criminal background, be able to read, and write.

Assistant District Managers are responsible for home delivery of Charleston Gazette-Mail within assigned districts. Duties include helping District Managers deliver newspaper routes. Good communication skills are required, as are a strong customer service ethic, clean driving record and a positive attitude.

Weekend and nights are mandatory. About 35 hours a week, and a company car is provided during work hours. There’s opportunity for OVERTIME and career advancement. Must be able to pass a drug test.
